Moving Forward

Well, it has been a week and on the surface it appears that nothing was accomplished. I tend to grasp at straws, so I am pleased to report that the room has been nearly cleaned out. That might not sound like much, but it took three dump runs and several filled trash bags waiting for a 4th!

I have also managed to settle on a benchwork design, so when I do get started, I'll know where I am going. This is what I decided on:

Got more work to do in prepping the room, but one needs to crawl before once can walk.

It's all fiction

The "B" Line is a 100% fictitious short line, which connects the fictitious New England city of Beaufield with the smaller towns of Edgewater and Eastland. The full name is The Beaufield, Edgewater & Eastland, shortened to Bee, then to B. It also happens to be the first letter of my last name. I picked it when I was a teenager, at the advice of an old time modeler who advised me to pick a short name so that I would have an easy time lettering locomotives. Those were my HO days, but it is even more important now that I have switched to N.

I have long dreamed of having a large point-to-point layout, and for a time, it seemed that I was going to have that chance. Situations changed, and I got tired of accruing rolling stock and track and not doing anything, so recently I abandoned the big layout dream and decided to utilize a junk room in the back of the house. I had created an entire fictional scenario for the "B" Line, including government grants and forward thinking city councillor's (told you it was fictional). In my mind, a railroad needs a reason to exist, hence the background. I am mostly interested in what is called commuter rail in todays lexicon, and have chosen to model the B-Line after the MBTA commuter rail in Boston. Of course, the B-Line also handles some local freight.

I know, I'm crazy...so what?
