Well another week has passed and there was actual model railroad stuff going on here these last few days. After what seemed an interminable series of delays, I managed to get my benchwork up and have now begun laying track for the "Met", my subway system. All right, the subway is more for show than real model railroading, after all, there is only one station, and that is all that will be visible. I just thought that a city the size of Beaufield ought to have a subway, and so it shall. Otherwise, there is not much else to report. The room is still not ready for a layout, but I got tired of carpentry, so decided I'd get started, and fill in the blanks when I was more in the mood. I purposely have made the table a bit high (43" to the sub level) so that one can easily look into the station and see the escalator etc. This will make my table height about 46" at the low point. Of course, with Beaufield being a coastal city, all inland stops will be slightly up-grade. Shiretown is a few feet above sea level, which will require a slow and steady climb from Beaufield.
I hope to have the Met operational by next weekend, and maybe then I can get to work on the underground station.

Subway
Sounds like Bawstin! I remember seeing an article years ago wherein someone had built a subway system, viewable from the edges of the layout as most of the subway, if not all, ran beneath the layout proper, a few inches in from the edgeof the layout.. It sounds like a fasinating project you've got going!
clarification
I'm sure a subway
I'm sure a subway (underground) could be integrated into a layout... ramp down to a below ground loop that runs just inside the fascia... have openings in the fascia that expose the subway stations... have them lit with LED's so you can see the details...
I could see this making a nice added attraction/focal point on a layout.
