You may have noticed that I skipped a week of blogging, and you may have wondered why. The short answer is that I was making such good progress a weekend ago that I decided to catch up on the "finishing work". By that I mean that while B-Line construction was sailing along, I was sort of "temping" the wiring. That is, I had the post connections loosely wrapped in place, to make sure they were correct, then I'd move on and wire up another siding, but still only loosely.
Well after a while I decided to solder everything into permanent place, before I moved any further out the main line. BIG MISTAKE! I started by tucking the wiring for the first turnout into place behind the facade of the control panel. In so doing, I must have pulled one of the three wires loose. Because of the subway, and the advanced state of temporary construction, getting at the wiring, and the offended splice, was time consuming, and wound up with me literally un-raveling every connection on the layout. Ever notice how much easier it is to create something than it is to re-create it? The frustration was overwhelming to the point that I was ready to pack it all in and start completely over. Luckily, I came to my senses, and the B-Line is back to where it was, and in fact, is a little further along.
Next project: the engine maintenance track. Maybe I'll skip the temp phase and go right to finish.
Till the next time then...
