These three days were spent playing tourist with no activities even remotely related to trains! The weather was really quite good. A little rain on Monday but nothing to really cause any serious problems.
With this in mind this is not going to be a lengthy entry.
Day 7 (Wednesday) is when we check out of the hotel and leave Chicago! Checkout is noon and the train leaves at 7.00 PM! So we have to fill in about seven hours. We have a couple of things in mind and I expect to make use of the Metropolitan Lounge at Chicago's Union Station as well!
Some quick thoughts/impressions of Chicago:
- A very beautiful city with incredible architecture.
- For the most part very friendly people but with some exceptions!
- The city has its share of beautiful people but it also seems to have more than its share of obese people! To the point that when they are walking in front of you it looks the proverbial "Two boys fighting under a blanket"!
- Many of the young girls were carrying dolls. We couldn't remember the last time we saw this!
- Its nickname, The Windy City has nothing to do with the weather. It was coined in he late 1800s when some one said that every Chicago politician was full of wind!
- There are four free, city run trolleys that run around the city. Something that other cities should take note of!
- Unfortunately we never got a chance to ride the "L".
- The daily "free" breakfast and reception offered by the hotel made the greed that afflicts so many of us Americans very obvious.
- Overall a great city; one we probably return to at some point.
