I made good progress today

I took apart the remaining major impediments to getting my basement in condition to start railroad comstruction today. Those impediments were two sets of metal shelves that held all sorts of stuff from magazies to models (I also build model ships) and assorted junk as well. Some of these things will come back into the room once the benchwork is up.

I now have to roll and dispose of an old rug that has been down since 1982. It will be replaced by indoor/outdoor carpeting but not until the room has been painted and the sky and clouds have been painted on top of that. The walls will be the backdro on 3 of the 4 sides of the layout which will fill the room.

If things go according to plan the carpet will be gone by tomorrow evening and I'll have most of the paint by Wednesday. Some where in the next few days I'll have the electrician come and install 2 or 3  more outlets in the newly vacant wall. At that point, new carpeting will go in and construction of the benchwork will begin.

I am using the Woodland Scenics Mod-U-Rail System modules with some modifications. The straight modules are 36 inches x 18 inches but mine are going to be modified in 36" x 24" modules in some places. This will be done by using outriggers attached to the stands and made out of similar sized wood glued and screwed into the benchwork. I also plane to incorporate a pice of bedroom furniture into the benchwork as it contains a number of drawers that are useful for storing all sorts of things. It's to big and heavy to get out of the basement in any case. Since it mease 20" by 60" I'll have to modify to strait section stands to cover it but that shlouldn't be a big problem either.

So hopefully in 2 weeks, I'll have started all of the benchwork. I'll write more then.

Thanks for the updates.

Thanks for the updates. Always encouraging/enertaining to hear other's stories.

That being said - cleaning/prepping the 'train-room' is always a kill-joy. (for me anyway Wink)

Using the old dresser

Using the old dresser drawers as storage is a creative idea. And as you say, it saves the struggle of trying to get it out of the basement.

Looking forward to benchwork pictures.

See ya

Moving the old dresser

corsair7's picture

I rolled up the old carpet today and then tried to move that old dresser away from the wall in preparation for painting the wall. I couldn't move it. It's almost as if its grown roots. I'm going to have to wait for my sons and remove all the drawers before trying again.

As for benchwork pictures, I have a jpeg image of it but I haven't had time to get it uploaded. To bad I need to have some hosting service to show it. It would be so much easier to just upload it directly.

Oh dear Irv! What are we going to do with you!! Wink

At least twice you've indicated difficulty with including images and at least twice before you have been directed to Adding Images to Posts, Blog Entries, Articles, etc. I believe the last time you said it was still too complicated!

Maybe you could try reading it yet again, slowly, allowing it to sink in and then try again, step by step?!?Laughing

You mention having to find a hosting service. Why not use your gallery here? It is no more difficult to use than any other image hosting service and you have the advantage that your images are always available!

Assuming your JPEG is already on you computer, the simplest method of displaying an image here is to use Create Content/Image!

  • Click on Create Content (immediately under your ID in the right column and then select Image.
  • The resultant page has a title of Submit Image.
  • Work your way from the top down and complete the Title area. This will become the topic/subject/title of the post.
  • Select a subject category from the RSS Categories list box.
  • Click the Browse button under Image and navigate to the image on your computer and then click Open. (Try to ensure the longest side of the image is no more than 800 pixels).
  • In the Body text input area enter whatever message regarding the image being inserted you wish. You may also leave it blank if you wish.
  • You may now click Preview (if you wish) and then Submit. You have just posted an image!

The advantage of this method is that it is as straight forward as it gets! The disadvantage is the image post is an entity on its own! This means that no one can respond to it. You, a Moderator or an Administrator may edit it but that's it! Thus if your body is not very descriptive, the image will eventually become just another picture in the long list of previous posts that no one understands!

I am sure that you can also reference this image from other posts by using the URL from the image properties but let's leave that for another time (along with the thumbnail option)! Surprised

Cheers!
