A few more weeks have gone by, and this time I actually have some accomplishments. The first section of benchwork is in place and track is being put down.
This is just the table surface for the staging level. I figure I'll get staging built, running, and fully debugged before I add the main level benchwork. I'd hate to have to fix some trackwork on the staging level with 10" of clearance. I am a little concerned that I am hearing that Atlas Code 80 track is heading downhill. I got the code 80 for the staging level because my last layout (far too long ago) used Atlas Code 80 and was bullet proof. I really want bullet proof on the staging level. The track I have down seems fine, though I can tell where the quality is not as good.
The helices are going much slower than I had hoped. On the other hand, I have very little scrap lumber left over from cutting the helix sub-roadbed pieces. I am using 1/4" plywood cut into 45 degree sections and laminated together. It is a lot of work, but the first turn is came out well.
Track laying is going mostly well. I had a little duh moment though. As I glued down the ladder switches I did not even think about glue in the throwbars. DOH! Fortunately, a little elbow grease and an Exacto blade or two got the throwbars and points cleared. I then hooked up two of the turnout machines to the Digitrax DCC and got them working. I need to figure out how I want to mount the stationary decoders (DS64).
Well, I had a great weekend getting things done. Off to bed and a new week!
