I was hoping to have a piece of 3'x8' plywood down in the building since I now I have halfway cleaned out.
I have ran in my 0-6-0T engine, and have it running quite well after it was shooting sparks. I finally stopped, and now runs good.
I am currently waiting for Little Choo Choo Shop in Spencer to receive my order from Walthers(Atlas Passenger Station) before I start working on the station platforms. While I was at my LHS last time I also brought a DPM Corner Turret Building(only paid $8.50) for the purpose of testing out my painting and gluing skills. Overall, I would say that my painting skills aren't that good thus far, but I imagine they will get better over time.
Since this is my first layout, I am using it as more as learning tool. Depending on how it turns out depends to whether or not it will become a perament fixture. I am using a folding table as a temporary benchwork especially since this layout may end up not being my perament layout. My building is currently 20 years, so I has pretty much outlived it's useful life but it is the only space I have. Getting a new better building is on my long list of desires.
Hooray!
Don't worry about running behind
This is a hobby, not a job. There are no quotas to be met, and no schedules to keep. I work under that kind of pressure all the time, so for me anyway, I enjoy the "take it as it comes" aspect of model railroading. I am interested in the notion of placing a layout in a shed. I came close to that very thing myself, but eventually opted for a back room. Let me know how this turns out regarding excess humidity etc. What part of the world are you in?

a hobby, not a job!
Amen to that! Of course, not considering the hobby as "work" leaves one open to ignoring some of those things that MUST be done, regardless of how onerous the task may be! Guilty as charged!!! LOL
I will be putting up a new shed this year and I have considered getting a larger shed to house a layout along with all the other storage needs I have. Since I live in a temperate climate (Midwest), a layout in a shed would be subject to high and low temperatures and humidity fluctuations. I think I'd rather use our spare bedroom if I can get the extra stuff cleaned out of it!
I have a small layout in the spare bedroom now and have plans on building a larger, around-the-walls layout. I am wondering if that might be too much. I'd like to build the layout of my dreams since I'm not getting any younger! Maybe when I get the room fairly cleaned out, I will have a better idea of whether or not I can complete such a large project within the confines of my lifespan! LOL
Darrell, soon to celebrate the 21st anniversary of my 39th birthday, and quiet...for now
