Layout Design finally finalized

Opie's picture

Now, watch I say that but I will go back and make more changes.

Baseboard 1 contains two stations, one freight and one passenger on opposite sides. Also, the loop is there with a tunnel(unmarked) and a bridge over a creek(river). Baseboard 2 contains a freight yard, roundhouse, storage for passenger cars, and fueling areas for engines(both steam and diesel).

Thankfully it is movable!

I am so glad that I decided to use the folding table, and not bolt the plywood down to the table. I discovered the other day that rain is leaking into my building and rotting old the old chipboard. I climbed a ladder to look at the roof, and found that some shingles are missing in various places. Since the wood is rotting away, and there is already some big holes in the wood I decided that it would be cheaper to move the layout inside of the carport if the building roof keeps rotting out.

Glue Problems

I used wood glue to glue the foam to the plywood, and the cork to the foam, and it holds good. However, wood glue and plastic track ties don't work. So I tried Testors Plastic Cement, it didn't hold either. Any glue suggestions?

Most of the first layer of foam is finished, except for around the low area where I intend on putting a bridge over a creek.

Running behind

I was hoping to have a piece of 3'x8' plywood down in the building since I now I have halfway cleaned out.

I have ran in my 0-6-0T engine, and have it running quite well after it was shooting sparks. I finally stopped, and now runs good.

"Fireworks" on Christmas

I got a eightteen 11″ radius curve sections and a LifeLike 0-6-0T engine for Christmas. I set up a simple oval, hooked up the power and it started shooting sparks from under the engine so I turned it off and check the track again, and tried again. I asked around on some railroad sites, and they said clean the track, and pretty much it could be normal. The more I ran it the better it ran however, the speed control has to be turned up to 35-40 before it will move so I believe I am going to take it to Little Choo Choo in Spencer when I go on my (almost) monthly shopping trip.

A building to start with!

My family has allowed me to use an very old storage building for my model railroad. Sadly, it is about 20 years old, but it will work. There is also an old fold-up table we used to use for yard sales in there, I am going to use it to support the layout. I found a piece of plywood at Lowes for eight dollars to use as my base. I also managed to get an old desk of mine back to use as a workbench. The process of cleaning the building will start as soon as my grandma gets her stuff out or when Christmas vacation starts for my job(Sub-Bus Driver) and my college gets out.
