Preparing content offline

Before posting directly to a site, you may want to start in a word processing program. Potential advantages include:

  • Saving time online. This is a particular consideration if you're on dial-up.
  • Access to spell-check and other editing features.

If you do use a word processing program, you MUST use the following two buttons before submitting your content.

  1. Clean Up Messy Code (small paintbrush) - select all the text in the editing window and then press the button.
  2. Remove Formatting (small grey eraser) - As the name says, it removes formatting. But this is hit or miss. The point is to get rid of unnecessary formatting that could potentially adversely affect the entire website. Once again, select all the text in the editing window and then click the button. If it destroys your content, you can always click the undo button. However, formatting is best done inside the WYSIWYG editor to make sure content is compatible with the rest of the site.
