The decals were designed for a 50 ft. car, and as a result, the "G" and "S" in Golden West Service ended up on the door rather than the car side. That is very, very rare on the prototype. You'd have been better off moving the logo further right.

You said it was not prototypical though (40 foot cars were all retired before Golden West cars were painted), but your technique looks fine. very good for a first attempt!

Nice work. I actually enjoy custom painting and decalling, assuming my (insert curse word here) airbrush works properly.
Having done a few now, the factory made stuff for the most part isn't nearly as appealing.

Thirdrail,

In all the excitement of actually having the paint and decals turn out halfway decent I didn't even notice that the logo was on the door until last night when I posted the picture. I guess I should pay more attention. But since it's not prototypical anyway, it doesn't matter much. Actually, the logo decals did start out farther to the right, but they were the first ones I applied and I didn't have my technique down yet. So the first one migrated a bit and by the time I noticed it was too melty to move around.

Great job! I'm looking at getting an airbrush myself and doing some customization. You've given me some encouragment. Thanks.

Joseph,

Did you make the decals? If so, which paper did you use?
