Imagine for a minute that you have never worked on an LED lighting project. Where would you begin? Do you have any books or websites that you think would be helpful for someone who's trying this for the first time?

As you have no doubt figured out, I'm thinking of adding some LED lighting to my layout, with the thought of having it controlled via DCC.

I would appreciate any tips which you could provide.

Kashirigi, I guess having

Kashirigi,

I guess having 'cheated' by becoming an electrical engineer I either know much of this stuff, or the peculiar place to look for it, not especially useful for someone getting started.

If you have an LHS, maybe you can check copies of wiring or electronics for model railroading, for a good basics introduction.  There are supplier sites that have some info and tutorial material:
http://www.ngineering.com/
http://www.richmondcontrols.com/

Here are a couple utility links:
http://www.theledlight.com/ledcircuits.html
http://ledcalc.com/

Here are some interesting LED assemblies available one of the guys found, they have some tutorial links:
http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/ledlights1.html

And you can find some application notes at places like Digitrax:
http://www.digitrax.com/manuals.php
http://www.digitrax.com/prd_statdec_se8c.php

For control of lighting projects with DCC you can use function only or some stationary decoders to turn LED's on and off, the same way the decoder in the locomotive turns the lights on and off.

Have fun,
Charles

Nice job taz-n-rr
Those are some great links, and that kind of help is just another example of what makes this site so excellent!  Cool
