Hello,

I want to replace my Atlas switch controllers with toggles, I have been told the Atlas ones can make the switches burn out faster.

What kind of toggle should I be getting and how do you wire? I will be using a seperate transformer for the switches.

thanks

DT

Momentary Toggle switch
Monentary Toggle Switches SPDT are what you need. the key is monetary, standard toggles always have power running through. its either on or on. Momentary toggles are commonly denoted as (on) - off - (on) or momentary - off - momentary. now don't confuse this with "on - off - on" which is a not monentary. (on) - off - (on) always returns to the center off.

Switches MUST be momentary
Just to clarify, the Atlas switch actuators require a momentary pulse, like with a spring-button switch. They act like a snap-relay. Normal flip toggle switches providing contant power would burn out the switch actuator

cdu

it sounds to me like what you need to be looking for is a cdu rather than replacing all your atlas turnout controls.

it will in fact be a cheaper exercise for you and there is no limit to the amount of switches to it .

if you are not sure what I am talking about its a capacitor discharge unit and it will only release a pulse and you can hold your finger on the atlas switch for as long as you like it will not burn out as once the charge has been released it can not be released again until you have taken your finger off and put it on again .it just wires in with 2 wires from your power supply and then to the first turnout control and your done and the risk of burnout is next to zero.

a pushbutton switch would

a pushbutton switch would work the best. I use them for mainly switching. You will probably need a Normally Open Push Button or a NOPB. all you need to do is solder the same charge wire together on the two legs(one on each leg).

Would anyone happen to

Would anyone happen to have, or know where to find, a wiring diagram that shows where the three leads from the switch machine get soldered to the SPDT or the NOPB?

 Thanks!
