Hello friends,

I bought DN163A0 for Atlas SD24 and i'm little confused - in the manual there is a line of text that says: "place the decoder square CPU to the top" but the large motor contacts are also on the top of decoder like cpu's. On the photo isn't my decoder, i think i have newer version. My decoder doesn't look like this http://www.digitrax.com/prd_mobdec_dn163a0.php. Large square motor contacts are on the side where are cpu and electronics.

I will put the photos of decoder later.

Greetings,

Dejan

You probably have the
You probably have the newest revision of the decoder which is ROHS compliant.  The large motor pads face down towards the motor.  Now you should also have 2 slots cut in the area where the motor pads are.  I highly recommend using those rather then relying on the motor tabs just sitting against the pads.

solder
I perfer to solder short jumper wires from to contacts to the PC board, then you never have any bad connections. IMO that is the best way.

I would agree with you on
I would agree with you on the old boards but on these new ones with the slots that step isn't needed anymore.

Scratched my head too.
Couple of weeks ago I installed a DN163A0, also with the new board but the old instructions. Figured the motor pads had to face down, and I guessed right!  Takes a little time to line up the motor tabs with the slots, but it works great.
