This might be a dumb question but
I know that you can run 1 DC loco on my Zephyr system using address 0. But now my Zephyr is down and I connected back my old DC power pack to run the old DC locos, can I run a DCC loco too?

What a coincidence, I just received my Atlas Alco C-420 loco in the mail yesterday and it's equipped with DCC. I plan to go to DCC in the future but for now I am a DC layout guy...
Yes, the engine does take some extra power to get going, and the slow speed operation is virtually non existent.
My question is, is this bad for the loco? To run it on DC? I don't want to ruin it... and it is just too purdy an engine to just park it!
I read somewhere that it isn't recommended.... or is this simply hearsay?
Thanks in advance, John

I believe the "not recommended" is running DC locos on a DCC layout, but this is only because they heat up if they're not moving (keep them doing laps and it's OK, park then and it's not)...
I see no issue with running a DCC loco (with Analog Conversion enabled) on a DC layout...
