Hi!

This is my first time to install sound decoder with cam kit. From the install sheet, it didn't talk about much detail. I wonder when I install the cam kit, does it need adjust some special angel to march the movment or just put in the place will be fine?

 Thank you.

The sounds do occur at
The sounds do occur at specific points in the movement of the steam pistons (I would have to look it up, and it should be specified by the sound decoder, because it would also depend on the way the sound decoder operated).  What sound cam kit do you have and what loco are you installing it in?
Thanks,
Charles

Is it worth the hassel

Cams and  wheel  contacts on N scale will be a real pain. Not sure it is worth the trouble to install and then maintain. BEMF is close enough for me.

But t hat is just MO.

If you get this installed, let us see some photos of your install.

Fox, Have you found this
Fox,

Have you found this on the Soundtraxx site?  Use google search:

810038 site:soundtraxx.com

It brings up a couple items from the site, one is a PDF format manual for the cam.

http://www.soundtraxx.com/documents/manuals/tsuinstallation.pdf

I finally found a seller with a photo:

http://www.gadgettom.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=810038&Category_Code=

I am waiting for the PDF to download on my slow dial-up internet, ugh.  I don't know yet if it will help.

If you have a faster internet you might also try the google searches:

cam site:soundtraxx.com
810038 Exhaust Cam Kit

Actually the PDF document looks like it should help, 2.7 MB, but it has tons of sound install info and diagrams!

Let us know if it helps.  It seems tricky to get the cam installed in N scale, but it says N scale is good to go.

I found those file, but

I found those file, but they just talk about how to install on the wheel. But it didn't said how to adjust the position to match the cylinder movement. Like when cylinder push or pull, the chuff sound should come out.

Fox, You may have just

Fox,

You may have just missed the note in the document, I looked again and finally noticed it on page 19:

"2-Cylinder Steam Locomotives
In all conventional 2-cylinder steam engines,
use a synchronizer disk with 4 foil segments.
You can achieve the proper prototypical exhaust
chuff timing by aligning the foil strips of the
synchronizing disks to the crank pin on the driver
wheel
."

I don't believe they mean align the foil strips to the crank pin.  There is only one crank pin on a wheel, so just pick one foil strip to align with the crank pin.  The crank pin being the pin or screw that holds the side-rods to the wheel you are attaching the disk to.

Let us know how it comes out!

Well, this was fun looking
Well, this was fun looking this up, I don't know if I will install any cams my self, but now I got all the info figured out I think.

So just a bit more fun, I like drawing and illustrating things, and I figured a picture would be easier to make sense of.  So if I understand what the SoundTraxx document says the cam and wheel should align as in this illustration:

This was done in Google Sketchup.  Sketchup is difficult to use as a precision drawing tool, but it is great at 3D stuff.  This image is just a snapshot of the actual 3D model.  It was a bit tedious to draw but fun!

Have fun,
Charles
