I couldn't resist buying a Life-Like GP-38 in Long Island Rail Road colors and markings. From what I understand, this locomotive is DCC ready but I have heard from others that this really means "good luck replacing the PC circuit board with a DCC controller."

Now I readily admit I am a novice when it comes to DCC despite of all the reading I have done about DCC over the last couple of months. But if there is a PC board in this locomotive, converting the locomotive to DCC shouldn't be difficult. So what can you DCC experts (or anyone who knows more about it than I do) tell me about this? All comments, advice or even warnings are acceptable.

Any of the smaller wired decoders can be installed with little work. (Lenz-mini series, Digitrax DZ125, etc)

I am wondering..........

It's strange that in HO there was a drop-in decoder for P2K loco's. I wonder why the same isn't true for N-scale. Do some of the decoder manuf. not take Lifelike seriously? What is the deal?

GP38

Corsair7 is that the GP38-2 Life-Like by Walthers?

If it is, take a look at this site WWW.litchfieldstation.com

then look at the install section,  go to N scale  and you will see a install of that loco. Hope that will help
