I just went to install a DZ 123 in my 2-8-0 and 3 wires fell off the board.

Does anyone know the order they are attached to the board?

decoder on the bench, solder pads up and wires to the left I have from top to bottom

Yellow

White

Black

Red

 and the last 3 empty.

My guess is Blue, grey, orange, but I sure would like to be sure.

 Thanks all.

Viewing the decoder from the lettered (top) side the wiring order should be as follows reading left to right:

 Orange

Red

Black

White

Blue

Yellow

Grey ...

Cool

I just looked at one of

I just looked at one of the dead DZ123 I have here (with the shrink-wrap cut back)... based on this decoder, I would have to disagree with the above.

Looking at the solder tab side of the board (label on the shrink-wrap could be put on any way up), board away from you, wires towards you;

From left to right;

  • BLUE; is on the edge of the board/components and not on a tab.
  • GREY; is on the underside of the board against components.
  • YELLOW; is the first tab.
  • WHITE: is the second tab.
  • BLACK; is the third tab.
  • RED; is the forth tab.
  • ORANGE; is the sixth tab and against a component.

The fifth tab is not used.

[Edit] A thought; the decoder I'm looking at is an old DZ123... the last run of DZ123's (just prior to the DZ125 release) I believe was on a different board (possibly a prototype for the 125?).

wires

I just looked at the Digitrax web page  DZ123

Hard to see all of the wires- But

with the wires to the top You can read the DZ123 from left to right-- Green, Blue, White, Red, Gray and Orange.

Not sure where the yellow wire is?

I didn't attempt to cut the

I didn't attempt to cut the shrink wrap back ...  I just recorded the order of the wires as they appeared.

My apologies if what I listed is incorrect ... just didn't want to chance ruining a perfectly good decoder.

Strange

Looks like there are several wiring layouts for this. I looked at Digitrax site and mine is not wired like that at all and not like the answers here either.

All I can think is there were several models or runs and they are wired different. I should have written the order down before I started installing it. First timers errors I guess.

 Thanks for the answers all.
