A poll for you all

I'm curious as to what peoples MRRing experience is. There's a reason for my question and I'll share it with you all after some poll results are tallied, or post another poll to expound a bit on my research and then share the reason for my interest. I know there's some play in between my given options for answering, but the choices I think have a general covering of the levels. Thank you for helping out.

Thanks for polling :) If you haven't already done so, please tally in your answer.

Great poll man. I'm somewhere between the first and second choice so I went with the second one so as not to sound as bad as I am.

Howard, The poll was a good idea. It's nice to see where I am in comparison to others on this site. Phil

I'de have gone with the fifth choice, but laziness is a major factor here. Therefore I went with door four.

Howard I went with the 2nd choice. Because my tracklaying skills being less than good demanded it. I've identified 4 areas where the track/switches will need to be pulled up and fixed. I just finished the first tonight. 4 sections of sectional track replaced with flex and 2 switches replaced. Thanks Ron

Re:A poll for you all
I should have been a bit more clear in the choices. For example, I gave one saying "I don't know all the techniques..." I should have clarified that by adding "I don't know all the different techniques to do different tasks, but know how to do it". Like making rivers or mountains, there are lotso ways to do it, but just because you don't know all of them hardly means you aren't very skilled at it. It's cool, I'll say it's about 50-50 on the ones who are new and learning/learning as they go (such as myself) and those who are pretty skilled and have a good understanding. I am kind of surprised no one chose the last one. From my time here, as well as seeing some of the folks I am thinking of on other forums, I feel there are at least 3-6 active NSCALE.NETers who fit that description. Lyle, don't feel like that. I am most positive everyone was where you were at in the beginning. I was and each new part of making the W.W.R.R. starts off with some things that get way more proficient. As I get into it, I figure out what works best for me. I chose option 3, but I also feel I am very competent in one or two aspects of the tasks I have encoutered so far. To top it all off, I finally finished laying down all of my track tonight and I only drew blood twice... damn rail joiners  Ron, from looking at your gallery and reading your posts, I'd put you in option 3. Just cuz something needs rework, doesn't mean you don't know what your doing. Ok, so tomorrow I will post Poll #2 to figure out what I need figuring.... Same bat time, Same bat channel :)

I went with No 2. This is my first layout. Been working on it about four months now, ( when I have the time ) so I'm still learning. Stan.

That's interesting Stan, I think you and I are about the same level of experience. This is my first layout and I started in Sept. or so, and started actually physically doing things other than planning around Dec/Jan. I chose option 3 because I feel I know enough about the tasks I have done so far to answer questions to some extent. Of course a lot of times I sit idle and wait for for someone to answer someones question because I know there is a lot more experienced folks to answer questions than me. As verified by this very poll, for every one of my experience level, there is approximately 1 of someone with substantially more experience than me. I also know at least the basics of the tasks I haven't started on yet to warrant my choosing option 3. How far are you on your layout?

Howard - I haven't done any " real " modeling yet. Right now I'm using Bachmann EZ track and all my structures are pre-built. I guess you could say I'm just running trains for now. When I figure out how I want my layout, the real work will begin. :) Stan.

That's very cool Stan, you're running trains. Hopefully I'll be able to run some trains within the next week or two. I hope I didn't come across as negative toward you in what I had said, that was hardly my intention if it came across that way.

Howard, no you didn't come across negative at all. I've still got a lot to learn in this MRR. I don't have anything permanent on my layout because I keep changing everything around, maybe I'll soon figure out how I want it. :D Stan.

There is nothing wrong with using prebuilt structures. I know of a local building that loosk pretty close to the prebuilt Bachman freight house thingy. Mind you, a tree through the roof will be needed as well as several old cars up on concrete blocks, but these are doable.

Iain - I agree, for me using assembled structures is the way to go. I just don't have a lot of extra time right now. I've got some kits, but they are still in the box. That's what makes this a great hobby. You can build your layout any way you want to. Its all about having fun. Stan.

Nope, prebuilt is a good thing for sure. You can still even do this and that to them to change them a bit. Thanks everyone for participating. From the two polls I stated, here is the reason and my interpretation: http://www.nscale.net/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-3320.html
