Birth of 50' Box cars?

I'm a little :oops: embarassed by this question. Should know the answer (and I've looked at about 2 hours worth sites). Approximately what year were the 50' box cars introduced? I remember them in the early 1960's, but assume they are older than that. Thanx for any replies. oldcook43 "Still a kid at heart :!: "

Before WWII, most 50' cars were dedicated-purpose cars for automobiles, lumber, and furniture. Not many were in general service. By the late 1950s, they had become common.
