Older Deluxe Innovations container fitment issue

Hi everyone. I was wondering if some with exeperience with the older DI twinstacks (plastic frames) could chime in or have solutions to resolve the tight or ill fitting Deluxe containers. I have some that seem to fit ok on one end, but really tight on the opposite end. Is this just a QC issue? I have some of the newer Deluxe containers and they seem to be better made and fit extremely well. I only have the Deluxe twinstacks with the DI containers. I'm going to try and thin down the undercarraige some to see if they fit better by expanding the container bodies less. Thanks.

The fit may be a little tight, but the Deluxe containers definately should fit in the well. One thing you may want to check is that you're not hitting something on one end... like the brake equipment. Also, did you buy the car new or was it used? If it's used, you might want to check and see if it was rebuilt by a previous owner after an accident... that might change how containers fit into the car... Paul

The containers fit, but they're extremely tight around the sides. Not hitting anything in front or back for sure. I actually split the webbing underneath from the side rails. It looks like QC issue with Deluxe then. I'm actually scraping paint off the ends of the cars and containers. Everything was bought new a few weeks ago from Fifer hobby.

I have a set of the TwinStaks as well....as noted with the car, some brands of containers will not work, as the car is designed per the prototype (ie: to scale), where as some N-scale containers are not. I've found that some of the older DI cans don't fit. I've never actually split the web down the middle, but it has come off the bottom of the well before, and i've blown the ends out of the upper 'wells' before as well...a drop of CA cures it every time. I now have gotten used to it, and only put specific sets of cans in each well, as I know they fit well enough. This approach meant I had to buy more containers then I intended to, but it was worth it in my opinion. AR

In that case, I would contact Deluxe... you certainly should be able to fit ANY 40' or shorter Deluxe container in the bottom well without an issue... As siderod pointed out, other brands may not fit, but you shouldn't have a problem with Deluxe containers. (I have 8 of these cars, and more containers than i know what to do with sometimes... and I've never had an issue like you describe...) Paul

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll try to contact DI about the issue even though they are out of production on the twinstacks. I've been fixing it with CA, but can't do that every time I decide to take a container off and watch the web come undone from the side plates.

It may be worth it to 'gently' sand down the area that is too tight. The Twinstacks are neat cars and still seen on the rails today. The 40' wells keep them running. Some dealers still have Twinstacks in stock, even though deluxe is not producing them.
