I have 6 boxes of katos intermodel, and I am not very impressed. I am using atlas and pico track. I have a lot of problems with them derailing. I also have walters intermodel (5 boxes of 5), I have converted them to microtrains coupler and these just rock. The walters have a metal frame, and weigh more. also the connections are better. I found out that the kato connects break easy.

has anyone else had any problems? if so how did you fix it?

kato intermodal

yep, I broke one also, repaired it using superglue and a little bit of evergreen styrene rod about the same size as the pin that broke. Worked well until I got the notion to drop the well again.

Then took the easy way out and ordered a replacement well from Kato. I believe it was $10. Hope this helps

What's the problem?
I have run trains with 30 cars of Kato double stacks and have never even had a derailment. I have Kato Unitrack on my layout and these cars track very well although you have to take you time when hooking them all together. I would bet your track is causing your troubles.I think these are very good for the price.

 If you don't like Kato's
If you don't like Kato's Intermodal cars, try getting a Deluxe Innovations 5 unit Twinstack car to stay on the rails sometime!Cry

What trouble do you have with Deluxe cars.  So long as you weight them, they run just fine anywhere in the train.

Without weight, I can cause them to stringline just by putting them in the first 10-20 platforms of the train...of course, that's with at least 60 platforms behind them. This is true of ALL of the plastic intermodal cars I own, not just the twinstacks.

I Had a "lesson" on Kato's Intermodal deep well cars
I thought I had a made a big mistake with them as well. Thought I had connected the articulated cars together per the instructions. They kept derailing almost anywhere on the track (BTW Kato Uni-track). I was about to give up. Part of the lesson here is my aging eyesight. Until I had the cars under a very bright light, I didn't realize that I was not connecting the cars properly. I was not "clicking" the two outside pins in their respective tracks. Once  connected properly, the cars now never derail and I use them on some rather tight radius curves.  I am very pleased with the Kato's and will buy another three-pack.
