I have a Con-Cor Galloping Goose which is in many respects a fine loco.  Lovely detail and runs well.

However, I found that the front bogies often derailed on my Atlas Code 55 turnouts with ME Code 55 track.  My solution is as follows:

1. Take the bogie wheels from an old Bachmann 4-4-0 which has been permanently retired.  (Unfortunately this has been the case with all of mine).  Best to remove them by taking off one of the wheels and sliding the axle out.  Put back wheel making sure it is in gauge.

2. Remove front bogie from  the GG and slip off wheels.

3. Because the Bachmann wheels have a larger diameter axle than the original GG axles it is necessary to enlarge the hole in which the Bachmann axle will be placed.  Starting with a hand held 1.4mm drill carefully ream the holes for the axles.  When this has been done use a 1.6mm drill to widen the hole further.  I use this drill as a file to make the hole big enough for the Bachmann axles.

 4.  Replace bogie back onto the GG.

Since the Bachmann wheels have a slightly deeper flange the new bogie is less prone to derailment (but not perfect).  A caution: there is insufficient space to replace the GG wheels with standard wheels but there is just enough space for the Bachmann wheels.

 Hope this is useful.
