NIce, but no dates for
NIce, but no dates for availability .....or any data other than the pictures, so I guess I have plenty of time before the preorders, and then more time before the delivery to save. And then I'll only be interested if they do MRL or at least some undecorated units. Kato was always the prime candidate to do the 70ACe's....but it's nice to see it's actually gonna happen.

I would say you will be
I would say you will be seeing these between now and x-mas since the poster says June 2008 to Jan 2009 projects and the coalporters are already on their site with a oct/nov delivery date.

What's the big deal?

So just what IS the big deal about these SD-70ACe's, they're only diesels? Ducking to avoid all the missiles being hurled my way............ Internally what is the difference between an SD-70MAC-the knife and SD-70ACe-of spades? I find it almost comical that no matter how big these new diesels get, not one single unit has yet to equal a C&O Allegheny class 2-6-6-6 steamer for horsepower.

There are a lot of visual

There are a lot of visual differences.  First time I saw an Ace sitting outside of the EMD factory in London I thought it was a SD80/90MAC with the flared rads.  The Ace is a little longer then a regular 70MAC but the biggest differences is the internals and the engines being Tier 2 complient with emission standards.  Really it's no different then the difference between an AC4400 and Gevo, they actually look more alike then a MAC and Ace.  As for the steamer having more HP I'm not going to open that can of worms.

Hi,there isn't really a big

Hi,

there isn't really a big deal about the SD70ACe - it's just the currently produced model by EMD and therefore quite attractive for modern railway modellers.

And the UP heritage units are SD70ACe, also the KCS "Southern Belle" scheme can be found on the ACes. I am really looking forward to both of them...

Greetings,

jpd

True enough, them big

True enough, them big diesels don't have the horsepower that the Big Boys, Alleghenys and Challengers had.  Of course, while the steam brutes are busy taking on water every hundred miles, the diesels just keep on going.  While the steam brutes are spending hours having their boilers cleaned, the diesels just keep on going.  While the steam brutes required manual lubrication every day, the diesels...  you get the idea.

So sure, the big ol' steamers could individually haul more, they just couldn't make nearly as much MONEY doin' it!  And that's what makes the railroad run.  MONEY!!! Cool

I will admit, I am SOOO looking forward to getting one, perhaps two sets of the Heritage units.  One to run, and one to just look at!  (The runners will be chipped, the lookers will be embalmed!)

That UP looks a little
That UP looks a little "cramped".  I have the SD70M in that paint scheme (the large American flag on the sides) and it's nice & stretched out.
