I was reading on this forum that one of the ways to improve the running of these locomotives is to replace the worm with a brass Kato one. Well, being on the other side of the pond it is not to easy for me to pop down to my LHS that stocks Kato spares. So where can i get one from mail order and what would be the part no. ??

You could use brass worm gears from Atlas instead. When I did this conversion, I used part number 9480103. While you are at it, you might want to replace the wheels with part number 480304. These can be ordered directly from the Atlas website. I'm not sure if Atlas will ship internationally, but if they do, that'll probably be your easiest route.
