Hello everyone.

Recently my father-in-law bid on a new Atlas SD24 High Hood and won it on Ebay. What he didn't realize at the time was that it was DCC equipped and he has an analog layout. It runs on the layout but we are afraid that we'll burn out the board so the locomotive is sitting in the box until we can figure this out. We have contacted Atlas several times and didn't get a response so I asked a local hobby store to try and after 5 weeks Atlas finally got back to him and told him that they didn't have the analog board for that SD24 anymore.Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we can do? Or is it okay to run it as is? We don't know who the manufactured the board that is in it right now.  Also if you are ever in the Chicagoland areabe sure to check out a new hobby store. It's called Structures &Trains by Fred. He specializes in N scale. His website is www.structuresandtrainsbyfred.com. I look forward to hearing from anyone regarding the PC board for that SD24.

Doesn't the SD-24 from Atlas.............

Doesn't the Atlas SD-24 use the same analog board as the SD-7 from Atlas? It should as the same decoder that works for the SD-7 will also fit and work in the SD-24. Use one of the analog boards out of an SD-7. Now if you are gonna say that you can't find one............THERE MUST BE SOMEONE IN HIS AREA WITH AN ANALOG BOARD, for crying out loud. Who made the decoder in the model that he has? I know that both Digitrax and NCE decoders can run on DC.

Thanks for the response.
Thanks for the response. We've already tried a board from an SD-7 and it doesn't fit. Where would I look on the board that is in the locomotive to find the manufacturer?

Are YOU using DCC?

If YOU are using DCC, put the loco on the programming track and read back the info from the decoder. Otherwise get someone you know with a DCC system to do this for you. The manufacturers number might be say "129", that is Digitrax.......... You'll have your answer then. One of the standards is for decoder equipped locos to run on DC if you want. I have all my DDC equipped decoders disabled in that function.

It will either be an A0 or
It will either be an A0 or an A1 board.  I have the Atlas light boards from replacing mine with DCC and can send you one of each to give them a try.

He is really good. Whenever
He is really good. Whenever my father-in-law or I need anything we just email him and he usually has it within a day or two. What I like about him is that he is a model railroader as well and knows what he's talking about and he does layaways. Nice to have a good hobby store in the area.
