do these locos receive oil?  Is the high pitched intermittent noise normal?  If not, what type of oil? How does the shell come off?  Where does the oil go?  How often and how much?
Everybody has been a big help.  As I am new to all of this I have LOTS of questions and there seems to be LOTS of good answers.
Thanks!!!!

Odd for a newer Kato.  If

Odd for a newer Kato.  If it's not an issue with broken or fouled trucks, lube it very very lightly at the ends of the worm shaft only.  I use Ho-E-Lube Ultra Lite oil.

I haven't taken the shell off of one of these.  Looks for hairs (cats, wifes, etc) in the gears.

Is it an older run Dash
Is it an older run Dash 9?  I'm pretty sure a touch of lube where the motor shafts ride in the housing will fix the problem.   The shell should just pop off the frame... Kato Dash 9 shells aren't  real tight,so it should come off pretty easy.
