Well after almost a year and a half after first joining this site I have trains running.  I'm sure that is the one thing that many of us look forward to the most when building a layout.  It's a great milestone indead.

I do have a couple of problems though.  I have about 5 engines now that I have attempted to operate.  All are Atlas.  All are of course DCC.  I an using an MRC Prodigy Advance 2.  Of the 5 three are running great.  Two.....not so good.   One is real sluggish and "jumpy" .  Is this something that will get better over time?, perhaps after a "breaking in".  Is there something else I should be doing.

The other is a bit odd. It's an Atlas FM H16-44.  Right out of the box it ran great for about 2 minutes then it began to slip on a 2% grade.  Eventually it started to slip on the flats.  Is weight the issue or again is there something else I should be looking at?

Thanks for your time.

The Simple Answer

Well, the simple answer is to try cleaning your track and locomotive wheels.  Might be some dirt causing electrical continuity issues between your track and wheels.  The issue with the FM H16-44 may be that it had excess lube on its gears that after 2 mins found it's way onto the wheels, thus causing the slipping.  How far apart did you drop your feeders from your DCC power bus to the track?  That's the other to check.  If that doesn't help, the answer may not be so simple after all.
