Dullcote Question

Greetings,

I am going to try my hand at repainting some rolling stock .   I plan to use acrylic paints and an  airbrush.

My question is:  After I finish painting, and after I'm sure that the paint is dry.....can I spray dullcote over the acrylic paint?  Will the dullcote (laquer) adversely affect the acrylic (water based) paint?

Thank you for your assistance

Respectfully,

Pete.

Shouldn't be a problem but

Shouldn't be a problem but you may want to test a bit first just to make sure.  That's always a good idea.   I will do a test even with alkyd or oil based paints.

Pete, I've used Dullcoat
Pete, I've used Dullcoat over acrylics on several occasions with no problem at all.

As have I...Testors Dullcote

As have I...Testors Dullcote applied over PolyScale and ModelFlex, both without problems. Though you are likely better off testing on a sample first, to be sure the can is well shaken, warm enough (but not too warm), and isn't a can of some other colour mis-labled.

Not typically, no...I don't

Not typically, no...I don't spraybomb anything but Dull/Gloss/Satin coat. I airbrush all my paints. What I do for the sprayboms is peel off the label and write whatever the contents of the can is in black sharpie on the metal portion of the can.

What I was refering to is the fact that Testors has, on occasion, screwed up. I've got a can of "Dullcote" that, despite the can and lid being labled as flat clear spray, sprayed a distinctly blue paint. I've heard other horror stories about such things, as well.

And i have had experiance with Dullcote getting too cold...but thats a thread (or perhaps a blog post) for another time...

Ouch!

I thought I was being paranoid testing everything this way; now I have an excuse!
