I have many older-style Bachman type Locos in N scale, some in Steam some in Diesel Power, They usually do not have windows in them, Question after Weathering, i.e. painting, powders, decals, etc. it is usually recommended to use Testors Dullcoat, can that cause damage to the motor, other gears? I have heard it is unnecessary to take the shell off, yet this concerns me.

Thank You!

Weathering Carefully

It's not a good idea to spray a locomotive; first remove the shell and then do it away from anything and everything you don't want sprayed. Sprays are pervasive, they can easily enter the locomotives mechanism and cause problems.

If you are weathering small local areas of the locomotive using a small brush, then you can get away with leaving the locomotive intact if you are reasonably careful.
