Anyone in a small apartment?

I'm about to move into a small apartment in Brooklyn and I was curious if anyone else has a similar living condition and enjoys airbrushing their models.  I like airbrush weathering and I'm not too sure how I'm going to accomplish it in an apartment that doesn't have any real courtyard to airbursh outside.  Are there spray booths or something that I can buy and set up when needed indoors?

Well Joe, I know virtually

Well Joe, I know virtually nothing about spray booths, but a Google search for building airbrush spray booth and the same search without the "building" resulted in a multitude of hits. From what I saw (very quickly) you can expect to pay $280 up if you buy one.

If you are interested in building one, try this site for starters: http://pages.interlog.com/~ask/scale/tips/booth.htm

Why not just open a window.

I live in a 600 Sq. foot apt. When I want to paint with an airbrush, I open the window near my table. It seems to work for me. I don't know what the big deal is, there hasn't been any really decent paint since Scalecoat withdrew their line of paints with tolulene in it in the early 80's. The old Scalecoat STAYED on the model especially if it was a brass or some other metal model. That's just my 2 cents worth.

Wow, that's pretty

Wow, that's pretty expensive.  I'm a poor college student lol.  The window idea is a good one however I just don't want to get paint all over the apartment and my stuff considering the layout room is also the living room.  As for the DIY paint booth, I couldn't find an estimated price for it.  Seems to be a great idea though.

Have a look around in
Have a look around in Todd's gallery (Admin) and you'll see his use of a cheap range hood to make a spray booth (~15 images).

BryanC

That's a good link for an inexpensive (at least cheaper than what you can buy assembled) paint booth.

I have a friend who built a small blower system using a computer fan , a fish tank filter and some dryer hose. He mounts it to a cardboard box that's appropriate in size for what he's painting and sticks the hose out the window. Seems to work pretty well..at least his living room isn't rainbow colored from overspray.

I used to live in a small apt and I just opened up the window and used a lot of the free newspaper as protection for the table.  I thought about building a spray booth in my current place.  I was going to build a box out of mdf or plywood and install a exsaust fan with a filter blowing out the window.  I was also going to install a light in the box.
