Hey, I think I remember reading somewhere that Kato and Atlas couplers are different but that they play nice together. Is that so? Just about to buy an Atlas Vo-1000 (UP), a kato PA-1 (DRGW), two Kato 70 ton hoppers (SP), and three Atlas 40' boxcars. (UP). Just want to know if they'll all get along.

I can't speak for all, but my Katos are not magnetic. I've had minor problems with my Kato couplers coming uncoupled at inopportune times, so I'm swapping them out to MTL's as time/money allows. They DO couple with Atlas and MT's just fine though. I've had some coupler height issues with Kato engines also, which is probably part of the uncoupling problem.
I have an SD70 and an SD40
I have an SD70 and an SD40 snoot that were my trouble makers....my regular SD40's and SD45's seem fine. Not only was there an issue with other stuff/brands, but they wouldn't couple to each other either.......when I switched to MT's the problem went away with no other modifications, so the problem seemed to be the couplers, and not the locos.
