I am using the Atlas N-18 layout for my plan and have come across a grade issue with the two connection ramps between the lower and upper level. Has anyone used the N-18 layout? If so, how are your trains doing with such a steep grade for the 2 ramps?
Does the layout specify 6% & 8% grades?
My thought would be; since you're using Kato track, the extra elevation required to get the track clearance needed to take into account the molded in ballast, gives you more rise in the same run, hence a steeper grade.
Suggestion; try to start the grade earlier to reduce the %.
