A few weeks ago I posted a question looking for n scale Milwaukee Road Passenger cars.  There really isn't much out there.  MRLDave gratefully turned me on to a set on ebay that would have worked perfect for my layouts given era.  It was a Milwaukee Road in Union Pacific colors.  About the the time Union Pacific and Milwaukee Road were going to join forces is about the time of my layout.  I attempted to bid on it but was outbid.  Another came about and I lost out on that one as well.  I would have bid more but you know how ebay is.  You have to be on time as well.  I was doing it from my phone since I had to work but lost out.

I will continue to look for this set.  Apparently both Con Cor and Kato built similar sets.

My question is if I need to, can I purchase a Union Pacific passenger set,  remove the "Union Pacific" on the sides, paint over with UP yellow and re-decal it with Milwaukee Road?  Well I know I can do it but what I really want to know is if someone has done something like this before and how does it turn out.  Is there a way to hide the difference in paint color without super weathering the car?  I know most passenger cars were taken care of a lot better that freight.

I'm getting frustrated trying to purchase one of these sets and have discovered that the UP ones are a lot more prevalent.

Thanks

Eric

The UP-style paint on

The UP-style paint on Milwaukee Road was so very close, I think only a real nit-picker might wonder just a little bit, and even then not really be able to detect a differnce:

The hardest part will be
The hardest part will be modifying them to look like Milwaukee Road cars, regardless of how they are painted. Model Railroader has done articles over the years covering their equipment and there are books from no less than three publishers (Four Ways West, Morning Sun, and TLC) regarding Milwaukee passenger service and equipment. Finding the right information isn't a problem, but putting that knowledge into a physical model, as you have said, will be the sticking point. Good luck!
