Can anyone tell me which couplers come on each of the major rollingstock manufacturers?   And  which are the best?   And  which different couplers  if any are compatible?  In most  ads  and catalogs for rollingstock the type of couple attached is not listed.  Thanks alot.  Norman

Hi Norman, welcome to

Hi Norman, welcome to nScale.net!

As a starter, you may care to read this: INFORMATION ON N SCALE COUPLERS. This is from our Links section (lots of good stuff there) under Modeling.

After that you may care to use the Search feature (upper right) and do a search on couplers. There will be quite a bit to read! After that I am sure there will still be quite a few other questions so ask away!

In the mean time I am sure that others will have some additional information to offer you!

Again, welcome!

To closer anwser

To closer anwser your question, Rapidos are Rapidos, one type all fit together. As far as Knuckles go Micro-Trains and Accumates will operate automaticly (couple together without lifting cars) and can be uncoupled via magnet. McHenry has a new type of automatic coupler coming out similar in design to Kadee's HO coupler, they are used on Athearn cars.

The other types are commonly referred to as dummy couplers, Red Caboose and Intermountain are the most popular. Dummy coupler equipted cars must be lifted to couple.

Another great, gaining popularity, option is using Z-scale Micro-Trains couplers. I have started using them on new projects. They look great and work with all the above couplers. I mount them at 33" on center.
