Woodside Coach with Vestibules

Back to bashing needed equipment!  I've wanted to have a coach or two that were "transitions" between the older wood coaches with platform ends and all steel standard coaches but, of course, older passenger equipment is rather rare commercially.  Doing some research, I found a neat looking Maine Central coach that fit my needs so, I decided to experiment.  Following my procedures for bashing 68' open platform cars from MDC Overland stock, I lengthened the car by two windows and removed the ralings from the ends.  Then, cutting the vestibules off a "junqued" Rivarossi standard coach, I found the fit was near perfect, glued to the ends of the car and on the platforms.  The results were quite pleasing to me.  I am now "inspired" to find another sacrificial Rivarossi car and try a wood side MEC combine with vestibules on both ends.

Those Rivarossi ends really
Those Rivarossi ends really match up nice.  You ended up with a really cool looking car, Dick.  Once again, nice work

Dick, I would be
Dick,

I would be interested in a tutorial or whatever about your procedure for doing this.  Some pointers about where you cut the cars, the glues and fillers you use, forming and finishing tools would really nice.  I plan to do similar piecing and patching to put together truss rod wood side cars for my railroads.

One thing you could do for your photo posts is to add some descriptive captions.  If you pick Edit Photo while viewing the photo in your album you can add a description of what the photo represents.  It makes the photos much more interesting to view.

Nice work, thanks!

There are, probably, two reasons why I do not caption my photos in my album, the first being no more than sheer laziness on my part!  The second is that most of the photos I've posted I have used in a forum post somewhere which offered explanations for the photos.  However, I will try to be more dilligent in the future! Wink

I did, indeed, do a tutorial on my coach bashing back in January, 2004.   However, most of the text and all the photos were lost at sometime during one of the changes through which this forum has gone over the years.  I will try to resurrect it as I still have the photos I used on my computer.  It will take a while but, I'll get it done.  It's a good challenge!

 Thanks for your interest.

Dick, Cool, well except
Dick,

Cool, well except for having to do all that work over again.  The way you discussed it it sounded like you had done a tutorial, and I did a search trying to do my homework.  But that did not work since I guess the web ate you original tutorial....

Thanks!
