OK... time for the next round... This thread is a continuation of nScale.net car - type?... and nScale.net car - should we?... With 77% of the vote, it seems that we prefer a boxcar... So with this thread, we'll refine the selection more... Since "boxcar" was used as a very generic term in the last poll, reefers are included in this poll... One again, try to keep in mind what will work for the widest range of eras, as well as what will work for you...
nScale.net car - Refining the selection.

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
I said 50' but I'd also go for a 40' for the same reasons as last time.
If I end up with a 40' I'll take the trucks and running gear off and use it as an equipment storage shed someplace on the layout, with the graphics weathered right down.
Either way, I'll have one sooner or later!

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
I voted for a 50'er, because I model modern era.
Please refere to May 2006 MR "Modeler's Guild to Steel Boxcars" by Toney Koester, he said that "by the 1990's spotting a 50's vintage 40' or 50' AAR or PS-1 steel boxcar in decent condition is a rare treat." However I could easily incoparate a few PS-1's or 44 AAR's.

It's also good to note that many have said they'd be fine with either, regardless of which they voted for......Interesting to note that my vote has brought the 50' boxcar back level with the 40' boxcar - it's going to be close!!

Ted, a 60'er would certainly give more room to play with...
But if you look at the length to height ratio of our logo, and scale it to fit car height, you'll see that we wont need extra length over what a 40'er would offer...
We're safe with any car length...I like the 60, that would give more room for the logo...

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
We're still sifting through available car types that match the groups selection, unit price/minimum order trade offs, and financing of any order shortfalls...
Sorry I've not got back to this thread sooner, but I've been a very busy guy the past few weeks (and plenty still on the slate)...
Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
A "standard" 40 to 50 ft box would fit my timeframe. I'm thinking of a paper box. You could consider the Atlas plugdoor box.
A second choice may be a 2 or 3 bay coal hopper. something to deliver Nscale volts to the power plant. The Atlas 3bay would be nice.

We already had our vote on car style, and it was decided that a boxcar was the most desired car for our graphics. Thats why this pole only contains boxcars (and reefers) but nothing else. Seeing as you're new, you likely missed the previous polls.
Cheers

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
Hello Bryan,
Just thought I'd bring this up to see where it stands. I know a lot is going own with the new system and your other stuff. But we've had a good number of new members join since this was last discussed.
I'm still down for at least 3 cars and maybe more depending on price.
When you have a little time can you advise us what's happening?
Thanks
Ron

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
Due to work load, I've not been able to spend any time on this project...
Sorry folks!
Backup financing is still a question at this point...
We need to refine what type of 50' Boxcar, but to do so I need to compile a list of what the options are, based on what the different manufacturers offer...

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
Personally, I'd be happy with either one - a nice 50' DD or SD is a welcome addition as is a 40' SD. :P

Does this mean we're drawing towards closure and ready for the next step :?: Let's see... color, door type, roofwalk(?), truck type, blah, blah, blah...
I think the forum car is a great idea :!: Glad to see that majority vote will rule throughout the design process. In the end, I just to want to get one :D

I don't think we can get quite that specific...we're designing a paint scheme to go ON the car, not the car itself

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
Man, not another boxcar. waaaaa. (reefers are just cold boxcars). Howza bout sumptin different, like a tank car, or a well car, or a business car? Yeah, an NScale.Net business car, where N scale is the biz!
hmmmm, did I already post in this thread?

Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
You're not too late... this project has been on hold for a while...
You may want to read through the other threads pertaining to it... the first post of each thread has a link to the previous thread on the subject...
and when a new thread/poll was started, a link to it is put in the old one.
Re:nScale.net car - Refining the selection.
Teach me for hopping into a poll without checking if it means something ;)
(40', just because I like the way they look, its a logo car so in my opinion it will and should stick out like a well-decorated sore thumb no matter what you're running it with... so any of 'em would be fine by me. Haven't been around for too long but I'd definately be in for one)
