HO-Scalers have been clamoring for these to be re-released. Too bad they aren't going to make them available for us N-Scalers. I know I would buy several car floats and docks because it would save me the trouble of having to scratch build them. Besides, I am not that good a scratch building stuff.

I have some new material coming on carfloats and the aprons they use. I've just found two books published by Morning Sun Books an New York's Harbor Railroads. I've also found a group that published a magazine called Transfer that has some useful information  about the subject. Most of the old magazines are available on CD and I need to get a few of them.

I also found an O Scale article about how someone builtan actual model of the carfloat operations at Bay Ridge. It looks good though some of the instructions don't translate well from 1/48 to 1/160.

Here are some pics of a car

Here are some pics of a car float in the SF Bay area.

I used to live very close to this when it was in operation... but I was not really interested in trains yet.... Now it is all burnt up.  If you are in the area it is a good visit and has some historic information plus some spectacular views!!
