Okay, a couple of things on my mind.

First, I still have to log in every time I visit.  Now, I know I've said that that's a minor inconvenience, so I don't want to make a big deal about it.  What was more surprising to me tonight was the number of ads scattered about the home page (which disappeared as soon as I logged in!).  I was afraid the site had been taken over by spammers!  If these ads help support the forum, I'm all for them as long as they go away after logging in!

The "chip in" ad:  didn't know what that was for.  I read another thread a little while ago where it was explained that the 'chip in' ad is to donate to the forum.  That's good!  Small ad, generate a little operating revenue, keep the site going.  I'll be donating sometime.

I thought there was a third thought in my mind, but I seem to have lost it.  The thought, that is, not necessarily my mind (although sometimes I wonder about THAT, too!).  It might have been the restricted space on the home page from all the ads.  It's hard to read the posts and blogs when the reading area is so narrow.  But that, too, disappears when you log in, so it is a non-issue.

I'm very pleased with the improvements on the forum.  We own a lot to the folks who toil behind the scenes to keep the site up and interesting.  If we lost any members because of the changes, it's their loss, not ours.

The chip-in is just a replacement for the 'donate' button we used to have before we moved to this software.  I just thought it looked better and allowed us to set goals.

As for the login, I have no idea, unless you have cookies turned off or aren't using the 'remember me' checkbox. I will make sure you don't have more than one session going in the database. If that doesn't work, I am not sure what to tell you. Thanks for letting me know about the issue.

ok, I just checked and you

ok, I just checked and you did have 8 seperate sessions. You can fix that yourself but going to your 'my account' link. If there are multiple sessions it will tell you towards the bottom of the page and provides a link for you to erase (delete) them.

You should be all set. PM me if you still have an issue.

Thanks, Todd.  I never noticed that before!  If I have any more difficulties, I'll check that first!  Can you tell that I'm not too computer-savvy? LOL

I'm still learning about all the features on the new site.  It takes time, but I'm sure having fun!

Ads pay the bandwidth bill

Ads pay the bandwidth bill for a site that you use for free (not to mention the time it takes to administer a CMS system). Try clicking on one just to help out. I hate for this to be my first post.  I'm normally just a lurker.  As someone who works in the industry I've never understood people who get worked up over ads unless they are obtrusive, which these are not (they go away when you login).

I think you will see, the more you lurk Wink you'll start to understand the difference between the folks that really are complainers, and the ones that are just trying to figure out what is going on.

On the other-hand, you make a good point. There is a lot of money involved in running this site, not to mention time. I too am in the business (or was until I became disabled) and this can be a very time consuming pursuit.

I have to admit, I haven't been doing to well of late, keep everyone informed about whats going on with the site. I think that would help a bit.

As one IT/IS professional to another, thanks for the support.

Dear Lurker,I'm not against

Dear Lurker,

I'm not against ads!  I just don't want them to take over the site as has happened elsewhere!  Fortunately, as I mentioned and as you pointed out, those ads disappear after you log in.

I'm not really complaining.  (Oh yeah?  Just what DO you call it, then?  LOL)  I post comments about the things I see and experience here, but not to be a thorn in someone's side!  I post comments so that I can learn about what's happening or how a forum feature works.  I'm never angry about a situation when I post.  If somethings really gets me worked up, I try to let it stew for a while until I cool off.  No sense going off half-cocked based on incorrect or incomplete information (or gossip!).  BTDTGTS  (Been there, done that, got the shirt!)

By the way, occassionally, I WILL click on an ad to visit one of the site sponsors.  Now that we have the "chip in" feature, I'll be using that, too!  Not being an IT/IS specialist, I have no idea how much this stuff costs or how much time is consumed running a site, but I presume the costs in time and money are considerable.

Also, as much as I might post comments of a questioning nature, I fully support Todd and his minions of mercy.  They do an incredible job keeping this site one of the best in the cyberworld!  I couldn't do it myself and I stand in awe of those who can!

Lurker, don't take my comments as offensive; they are not intended to be so.  I didn't take offense at your comment, as I'm sure it wasn't meant to be taken that way.  I'm answering your comment, though, to clarify that I'm not a whiner, just a concerned forum member.

By the way, Lurker, I hope you will post more in the future.

Darrell, (thankfully) quiet...for now

Sorry to misconstrue.  Glad we can discuss without tempers flaring!  Amazing to find a forum on the interbutts where people can actually discuss and debate like adults without tempers flaring!  :)

Glad you didn't take offense.  Sealed

Since what we have here are WRITTEN words, it's impossible to put much inflection on their meanings.  If someone takes offense at something that was written, it's because they WANTED to take offense!  I do my best to read something in a positive manner.

Back to my original comments:  I'm still getting kicked off and having to log in each time I access the forum.  I'm starting to get used to it.  LOL

The "chip in" ad has disappeared!  Just when I promised to kick in, it goes away!  (Yes, I saw the donation button for Clinton/Bush/New Orleans.  I'll pass on that for now, or at least until I know that the donations aren't being embezzled at the local level!  But that's another topic for a later date.  And a different forum!)

Now, did that sound like I had my sorts all bunched up?  LOL

Here (at nScale.net) we're a community, and as such you'll find a cross section of personalities... but even the grumpy and short tempered are (for the most part) well behaved Wink

Once new members get comfortable with the fact that we're a friendly, helpful bunch, they tend not to "read into" comments a negative context, but take things as if they where posted in a well meaning manner... differing opinions and discussions are key to finding solutions that will work for you, and none of which necessarily make any of the others wrong or inappropriate for someone else.

We're proud of, and continue to foster, the community spirit we have here, without having to be forum Nazis to keep it that way.

Not sure what happened!

Not sure what happened! There were a couple of other posts here. The last was by Bryan and I "replied" to it and those two posts vanished along with my "reply"!

Edit: Ah they are back! Strange! I try my post again!

Bryan has it right on! Some

Bryan has it right on!

Some of the other forums out there are pretty pathetic! I also belong to an Audio-Video forum (I am interested in High Definition television). The way members often treat each other is as is they were a bunch of 10 years olds!

So many threads are chock full of "Yes you are..., "No I'm not, you are..." type of posts (even with moderators joining in) that it is often difficult to obtain any useful information (even if reading the thread does bring a smile to your face)!

So when a newcomer first signs onto nScale.net s/he is not too sure what to expect. But as Bryan says, they learn fast and become part of the family!
