I sure hope so.

If they're not, I'll have to change my sig line as it wouldn't be funny anymore.

About meaningless topics ..

Gentlemen,

I do not know the details of the problem here, However my opinion is. They might be meaningless and advantageous in some situations but not in others. There may be a stituation that a certain topic could be meaningless or advantageous which may lead into someone's opinion to avoid unnecessary criticisim of an issue that has arisen.     Enough said !!

Tom, I think you are

Tom, I think you are missing the point (pun intended or not as you prefer)!

I believe ranulf was asking about the points that are awarded to members when they create a thread (five; more for a blog entry) or respond to an existing topic (three).

Shortly after this "new" site came into being the feature of awarding points for posts was added. It produced a lot of discussion at the time and Todd and Bryan made it clear that the points meant nothing at all at the present time. There may come a time in the future when they might become meaningful and should that happen, the slate would be wiped clean and everyone would start again on an equal footing.

I think ranulf was simply inquiring if this was still the case!

I don't understand where "meaningless topics" came from! These (if, indeed, there are any) were certainly not part of this discussion in anyway shape or form!

If I totally missed what ranulf was meaning then I hope he will correct me ASAP!

Pointless points?, never

Pointless points?, never Wink

Are the accumulated points presently going towards anything?... No.

When a competition (or whatever use decided) is announced, the points will be zeroed out, and everyone will be on an equal footing.

This has no bearing on a members post count (seen below your Avatar).

I had the impression that
I had the impression that the points are an actual reflection of the desire to participate of any particular subscriber, not that it qualifies him for anything other than showing he is active within the page.

BryanC, you surmised

BryanC, you surmised correctly.  I was indeed referring to the points accumulated by posting and inquiring if they are still unassigned.

There was a thread some time back regarding these points and suggested uses for them.  No doubt the thread is buried deep in the bowels of the Questions for Administrators forum and a search may find it.

I make sure to post my meaningless topics in General Discussion or face the wrath of the administrators' delete keys! Wink  LaughingLaughingLaughing

There are two

There are two tallies;

Posts: A raw count of the number of contributions.

Points: Various values assigned to different Post types.

The Post count is an all time count... Points are resettable so contributions can be tracked over a given time frame.
