Yet another quick and simple question.

How long did we see wood sheathed boxcars in service?  The local here has half a dozen in their yard still but it doesn't look like they have been used for about 20-30 years or more.

The reason I am asking is the MW I have created is mid 60's era and just curious if someone might have seen wood sheathed boxcars that late in service.  I might like to model a few if so.

Thanks

Most were phased out

Most were phased out following WWII, and by the mid-50's were either pulled from service or rebuilt with steel sides.  Many were converted to MofW tool cars and while a few may still exist, I would assume that in your era there would still be quite a few still used as MofW cars. I'll see if I can find more info if no one else has anything more specific to add.

That's probably what these

That's probably what these that Rarus are using are for.  Like I said they are in pretty poor shape but they are still on rails.

At least some smaller
At least some smaller railroads ran wood boxcars in revenue service into the 70s.
