Does anyone know what kind of mining would be prominant in the far North East?  I would like to include some mining operations on my layout.

Much appreciated,

Zach

I am quite sure that.......

....a granite quarry would work well.

You could include a large shop for finished granite products such as counter tops, building facings, floor tile, etc.

Construction granite (rough rocks) could be shipped by gondolas and finished products by boxcar.

You would need a gondola loader and a trackside platform for boxcars.

Have fun.

Would Granite be
Would Granite be prototypical for the early 1900's, say 1920-1930?

Most assuredly..........!

That is the stuff the old bridge abutments, tunnel portals, highway overpasses and such were made of all over the USA in that era.

Have fun.

mining in the northeast

In NJ there were zinc mines and iron mines. Zinc in Franklin and iron in the Greenwood lake area. Rock and sand are still being mined (if that is the proper term for blasting whole hillsides away).
