Default Axian Train Storage, anybody use it?

Hi guys, I've got a coal drag I need to have quick access to, rather unfortunately I don't wish to spend an hour unpacking dozens of jewel cases every time I want to run it. I saw the Axian Train Storage boxes and think they look promising but I'm still not sold, my main concern being the foam attacking the paint. Does anybody have any opinions on this system and has anybody experienced any problems with it?

I have 15 of them.... including 3 tote bags.

They are great for taking trains to/from shows.

Every once in a while, I will have the foam stick to a car a little bit, but it's more about the paint finish on the car than the foam.

Tear off a piece of plastic wrap and lay it on your table. Then set your freight car in the center. Pull the plastic wrap up over the sides and then place your freight car in the foam tray. I've had cars stored that way for over 30 years with no damage.

I've had some cars in mine over 10 years, no issues. I still prefer the high iron ones but they went out of business years ago.

Some club members use the plastic, but all find it a pain. Those of us who don't have everyday an issue with commercially painted cars. The one issue I have seen was with a custom painted I suspect was not clear coated.

I've had my Axian boxes for about 8 years. I have had zero issues, and that includes a 1500 mile cross county trip in a moving truck. I still use them for holding overflow cars between ops sessions.

I got some from my LHS, but I think I got most from Fifer Hobby.

I am looking to purchase one box to make mine a set of five which fills the bag. I only have four because it was all the cash I had on hand when I happened upon a seller at a show with used units fro $10 each.

As messed up as I see the packages from some of the shippers, mainly UPS and FedEx, I would avoid shipping them.

I've bought from a LHS that sold them, but I believe I have purchased more from the manufacturer over time.

Shipping on the boxes is high not because of the weight, but because of the dimensions.

Incidentally, on my last cross country move, the movers put my three bags of boxes into the truck. There was no other protection, and they survived with all contents intact just fine. ( they were packed near the top of the truck, so nothing was on top of them....)

okay, just ordered two boxes, $70 something with shipping, as much as it kills me to pay that much for two cardboard boxes I need access to that train without hassle

I did some digging and found some people line their boxes with tissue paper to avoid paint troubles, I'm going to give that a try, hopefully it will work

    okay... got my two boxes...

The boxes came nicely packed with no damage, so far I've loaded one with the coal drag:

So far the hay brothers loads I have in them arent snagging on the foam, lets see if it stays like that
