Default What are you buying this month (May 2017)?

I've been planning to buy this baby for over a year now. Been waiting for a good discount and here it came. 188 Eur at the MSL store. Digital with sound. And now it's mine

Did not even have the time to unpack it, yet

Part of the small haul from the show weekend. The only part that came from the shows is the CNW Kato baggage car. I knew it was a good find, but was unaware of just how rare it is! The rest came from the train shop in downtown Great Falls. She is retiring in August and is selling stuff at fair prices. For you diesel nuts, she has around 900 to sell! Anyway, the only steam was the new 2-8-4 sitting there! Had to get it. The cabeese kits were a good find, as well as the hot knife! PIC_0541 (2).jpgPIC_0542 (2).jpg

Not so many deals to be had these days but I did manage to get a 6-car Con-Cor NYC Passenger set that turned out to be NIB (boxes had some wear but cars were mint). Even better that there was no end observation unit since I already had one of those so now I have a nice 12-car NYC passenger set (although half the cars have matte roofs and half have glossy).

Also picked up 12 Roundhouse Husky Stack Intermodal Well cars that were BNIB (actually came in the 12-pack Roundhouse shipping box). Great detail on these units but surprised that they are plastic (seem stiff enough but pretty light).

    Ordered some used stuff:

U.S. Army Munitions Depot Model Power Kit. Made in Germany.
Digitrax DS4 Quad switch decoder. Perhaps for use with BLI water tower with sound.
6 pack Solar Panels, not real, just for placement on layout.

12-Volt, 10-Amp power supply for charging RC car batteries. Has 2 banana jacks & Voltage adjustment from 10-13.5 Volts.
Horizon Hobby. Plan to use this for lighting & turnouts. Check with O-Scope for ripple amount. $2 only.

    Concrete paving material bag
    Asphalt paving material bag
Just mix 50/50 of white glue & water with the powder in bag. Then use a spreader to spread the mixture.

HO: Bachmann GP40 with sound & Athearn caboose, both SOO Line, to show the diff between N & HO.

How do you rate this brand for cost and quality as opposed to the other European builders?

Post human deliver package today. Yippee!

Moose buy MRC Light Genie based on post by, ummm, Moose recall it was @ChicagoNW ? Any way, seems like a real kewl device for the electrically challenged. 5 zones, various effects, and built in DCC. Yesss!

The other things, ummm, kinda sorta fell into the cart by total accident. The Holland Iron will hopefully find its way in the rail yard as a power plant...

May's train money has been spent gathering supplies for a pair of modules that I am gearing up to build. The following were bought from the Ohio N scale weekend last weekend.

Finally to put me over budget. I got a sweet deal on a DCC'd Consolidation with Z scale front coupler from a friend!

I won an eBay gamble today...

I bought a Con-Cor PA-PB-PA set that did not have enough pictures to tell version and which said that it was 'untested' << always a good sign. It was only $15 + shipping so I decided to roll the dice and take a chance.

Anyway, got the set today. Turns out it is the middle version which was what I really wanted (I wanted to power another unit in a NYC PA-PB-PA set and kept winding up with other versions -- either the older one or the newer one). Even more importantly after a bit of cleaning and lubrication it runs like a champ and consists quite nicely with my NYC PA and a dummy PB unit. Now the set has enough umph to pull a dozen passenger cars (previously the single unit could not).

Oh and one of my kids has a birthday coming up so we also bought a Train Cake Mold -- actually more like a set of cupcakes... Should make for a fun cake (my wife is better at decorating cakes than I am at modeling)...
