Default Out of the Box Models First N scale Kit. CBQ NE-12 Caboose

Hi everyone , I am pleased to announce our first N scale kit. It should be available for sale on our website mid June, but I thought I would share some photos of the 3D printed prototype before I send it off to the Resin Caster. This model was commissioned by a member at my local club. This will be an As Built version of the Caboose as it ran on the CBQ. The modeler will need to provide Trucks (bolster holes measure to Atlas Caboose trucks), Couplers (holes are pre-drilled for Micro-Trains 1015 couplers), paint, and Decals. I will include clear styrene sheet precut for the windows. We will have two Burlington Northern Versions and an Montana Rail Link version coming later.

We do offer services to complete the model and make it ready-to-run for anyone not wanting to do the work themselves, and we can provide a quote for that.

Here is a link to our Flickr album for the project: https://www.flickr.com/photos/149211...57683857568456

Our company offers model kit design services at competitive prices, if there are any projects you want to see made a reality, please feel free to contact us for a quote.

Lol, sure! Depending on the era, you may want to wait for the modernized versions we're releasing later for Burlington Northern and Montana Rail Link service.

For those of you who can't wait for the Resin version, I've made the model available on our Shapeways store as well. https://www.shapeways.com/product/5H...shop-inventory

Otherwise, the resin version should be ready in two or three weeks.

Yeah, the after retooling a the CAD model a few times and testing a few different types of Resin, we gave up on the M88 and the NE-12 and decided to offer them in just 3D. Right now they're FXD, but we will soon be switching to a local 3D printer who has better print resolution in a different type of plastic.

In all honesty that is slightly disappointing to hear. The complete solution of idea to resin was what gave the concept a lot of it's appeal and ultimately would have brought the cost of 3D printing back down to earth.

I completely get that, I'm really disappointed too! I went back to my resin vendor last night after all of the negative response and we're going to give the resin casts another go, but in the mean time, I am already looking into alternatives to Shapeways that should yield higher quality prints and none of the crystallization issues.

Curious what issues came up. Were there compatibility issues with the Shapeways resins?
