    Definitely EMD like it.

But who doesn't like a good bulldog nose.

It's also very era-dependent. First-generation schemes were EMD dependent, but by the 70's, it was less striping, bigger letters, fewer colors, bolder graphics.

And white....whoa. Other than KCS and Soo, white was possibly the least popular color ever just to show the exhaust soot. Maybe a black roof and antiglare panel on the nose. I like that last one above as a 'first generation' scheme; just put a big white center band like BN and make the letters BIG and you'd have a second-generation scheme. Lettering could be either black or white that way.

First up guys, thanks for all of your input, it has given me a lot to think about and to consider. I have never painted an engine before so the simpler the better for a first try. So what I think I am going to be doing is this:

    Main Body

    Pullman Green

    Side Grills
White continuing around the rear of the A unit and front and rear of the B unit to the doors

    Everything below the Main Body
    Weathered Black

    Fans and Horns
    Weathered Black

Wish I could do a paint mock up of the idea so it was clearer.
    Cheers Tony

Okay, figured out the painting and to tell you the truth, it looked a lot better in my mind than it does in reality

The final option, color wise. I kinda like this:

Of the 3 options , i like the last best . Only thing i would change , would be the scrolling to the same color as the lettering . Make it stand out more . A more silver or spring green would make the third one pop more

Moose like the blue one, seems more "royal" some how, but Moose kinda like the 3rd as it seems more unique than the other two. Just some moose thoughts...

I don't like the third one to be honest, it reminds me too much of olive drab paint, the sort that army tanks wear. It doesn't feel very classy.

That was what i thought about the first one . I somewhat agree with Moose on the blue , but i think its the wrong blue for a "Royal" . But hey , maybe im color blind lol

Agreed with the scroll blending in too much. If I go with Opt 3 I'll most likely remove the scrolls as I can't change their color and don't really want to get another set of decals made.

When I decided on the name "Royal Pacific" blue was the color I had planned on using. The engine/s will be pulling Pullman Heavy Weight Cars in (you guessed it) Pullman Green. I thought the blue would look too much hence Opt 3.

Your not color blind I don't think. The color is supposed to be Model Master Deep Sea Blue which is pretty dark. Taking colors for PSP Pro from a "paint swatch" doesn't always give 100%

Hmm, that's a good observation. Last thing I want is something that resembles anything military ...

Welp - back to the drawing board I guess. May as well cos my airbrush "poo'd the bed" so can't do anything now till my new one arrives, hopefully by the end of next week.

Normally I am a fan of the light-color grilles along the top, but in this case not so much, and I think it might be because this is in essence the only decorative flourish on the model, aside from the lettering. As air grilles, these are likely to get dirtier sooner, and a light color would call attention to this, and so I don't think it was done all that often. I might be wrong, but still... it feels like there needs to be some other decorative gesture elsewhere on the body.

I'm feeling like a white pinstripe (or whatever color you choose for lettering, use the same color) that either runs along the sill line or at some other horizontal plane would be easy to add, as you can just get them printed with your decal set. If you set this stripe at some mid-height, then it could break and be interrupted by the lettering (and the scrollwork if you end up keeping that). With the addition of such a pinstripe, maybe the light-colored grilles don't bother me as much.

I'll second the notion of a study in Burgundy, I think that could look very regal.

Of course the lettering would have to be gold. Maybe some sort of PRR type stripes. would have to see it...

Well, I have tried the "Burgandy" and don't think it looks too bad ...

It is pretty basic and probably not era constant but it's a start I think. Now to find the appropriate Bugandy and Gold colors in an acrylic airbrush paint.

Burgundy option 2, a little more ornate perhaps?

    Perhaps with slightly thinner stripes.....

What you suggest sounds good; however, I already had the decals made up with the lettering in white. Originally, the paint scheme was going to be blue and white.

Same scheme as above but in Midnight Blue ...

My preference is your Burgundy option 2. My second choice would be this last midnight blue option.

They both look regal enough to do the name justice.
