Thanks gents and I have decided to go with the Wabash Grey for the roof of each engine and car that it will be pulling. I think that is as close to the color shown as I will get in a Railroad color.
    Cheers Tony

Have ordered 3 bottles of Wabash Grey and 3 bottles of CN grey. Looking at the Badger color swatch they are similar but think the CN looks a touch lighter.

At the moment I am redoing one of the Pullman Heavy Weight Cars in the CSX Blue so will be using that cars roof as a test bed for the two colors before doing the engines.

A little more painting done to the A unit. Not sure if I like this or not but think it is a little more realistic:

Be careful masking for the gray so you don't pull your decals off with the tape!

    nicki6,

Thanks and have it all covered. H ave given everything a light coat of "dull-coat" for that very reason.

Well, I'm getting closer to the end ... the grey paint arrived unexpectedly this morning. I bought two shades, Wabash and CN - the CN won out although not sure if I like it on the A unit, or not the entire length of the roof anyway ...

In real life it is more a greeny grey and does look good as a contrast to the blue I think.

    Thanks Nskale,

Have a bit more to do to it and fix a couple of small mistakes but otherwise I don't think it is too bad for a first loco paint with a new airbrush. We'll see how the next one turns out, a CB&Q F7 B unit for my wife.

Looking real nice, a great start for your new airbrush Now just keep in mind that light grey won't stay so light for very long, with all the exhaust grime around it...

Thank you and as for the light grey remaining light grey - it will for awhile, at least until I learn how to weather properly with or without an airbrush

As for the engines, hopefully I will have them both completed by this evening/tomorrow.

    Steve,

I did two light coats of each color. I should have put on a third coat of blue OR not quite as light.
