    Default Hopper paint color?

Yep, here we go again ... paint color

Anyway, I am getting a number of 4 Bay Hoppers next week that I am wanting to (or thinking about) repainting in the "standard covered hopper" color, similar to this color.

I am assuming that it is a light grey or similar but would like to know the actual color, if anyone makes it and/or what color you guys use to replicate it.
    Cheers Tony

I thnk it'll be your monitor. Too many variables that it becomes "garbage in, garbage out". You'll be surprised at how much subtlety the human eye can perceive when it comes to color shades (just like detecting levelness of something). Despite your age...

Maybe, cos despite my age (whatever that is) my eyes are good. So what color would you suggest?

Have ordered the following Model Master Acrylic colors. Hopefully one of them will be close OR a combination of them:

    Steel
    Light Ghost Grey
    Aircraft Grey
    Light Sea Grey
    Skin Tone Light

I wouldn't sweat it if you can't get a exact match . Paint fades , so darker or lighter can depend on the age of the car in service . Plus there is the grime factor too , which can effect the color too

I doubt there's actually a standard hopper light grey. I wouldn't be surprised if the paint formula railcar builders use varies from batch to batch.

I think I've read more often than not that Light Ghost Grey is the color/shade you are looking for (unlike these droids).

Thanks guys and I agree with everything said about "matching paint colors", there ARE too many variables for a precise match.

Bronson, I think you maybe right as well. After comparing all of the color swatches (I know) Light Ghost Grey was the closest to the color of the Hoppers I have. I must have suspected it would be as I ordered 3 of them compared to one each of the others.
