I got an email from Northwest Short Lines. They said that due to the expense, metal trucks lost out on the "war" with plastic trucks.

Too bad, although I can understand the difficulties of making metal trucks. You'd have to have some kind of bearing on the trucks to keep from wearing out the metal as the axle on the wheelset turns. As small as the trucks are in n-scale, that's probably asking the manufacturers too much. How many people would buy trucks that would cost anywhere from 4 to 6 or more times as much as plastic?

If a plastic truck wears out, it's cheap to replace, so again, a matter of economics - both for the manufacturer and for the modeller.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Actually, I think GHQ sells several white metal truck kits:

May not be what you're looking for, but might be worth looking at.
    Cheers!,

Thanks for the info' update, but you do realise I trust, that the date of the last post (the one you answered) was 4 March 2004? I'm not sure that joek6nlx is even a member any more. Thanks though, for going to the trouble - at least we now know that it IS possible to buy white metal truck kits.
