    @Klatu

Will you be building a layout that will be very realistic or will you be including elements from your other interests? As you know, model making is model making, only the scale changes.

We hope you will bring techniques from those other areas. It may sound strange, but many excellent techniques used by scale modelers are not known to model railroaders.

    Welcome to the fold!

    Icon6 Hi

I'm not much of a poster, but I surely do enjoy (and learn from) the many posts that I've read.
My main reason for registering is to be able to access the many photos that I've been missing.

You probably won't be hearing from me much; but be assured that I will be reading.

    Thanks:
    Rick

    Default New Here

    Hi Again:

Forgot to mention: I have no layout as yet.
But been collecting motive power, rolling stock and an NCE control set for years.

Retired just last week. Maybe I'll finally get started.

    Thanks Again:
    Rick

    Welcome aboard! @IlTraction

By your moniker, are you by any chance a juice jacker? We are here, just drowned out.
Even if you do not have a layout, that doesn't mean you just have to hang out and be silent. Feel free to add your two cents to any discussion.

By the way, a layout doesn't always have to be a giant basement filler. My first foray into overhead power is only two feet square. My little Garfield Ridge Streetcar Museum has given me a lot of pleasure.

    Greetings all.

I registered to lurk for a bit at first, as I'm not really a N-modeller (yet), but it seems the stars are being aligned in that direction. I guess you can say I'm being preemptive, we'll see what comes of it.

    Be seeing you around.

High! I got this a little backwards. I posted elsewhere first the other day and now here. I'm Rick, double retired. Retired as a platoon SGT US Army in 96, Armor (tanker, M60A1/A3 M1/IP/A1). 61 years old now. Retired again, this time from farming (small beef and grain operation) almost 2 years ago. Now I mostly do grandpa's daycare. Been messing with model trains sense I was a kid. Mostly HO. I did build a couple of N layouts for a couple of sons years ago. I started to build another HO layout for me a couple of years ago but farming got in the way and it didn't get very far! So now I decided to start again. About 2 weeks go, one son living in Fargo ND told me that with a pending move he will have room for a layout, N scale and that he was thinking about a KATO starter freight set. So my wife and I got it for him for his birthday the 3rd of this month. Huge mistake because that cause me to rethink what I was doing. So now I'm coming over to the dark side! Another son is going to get my HO stuff as he too has room for a layout. I Hunt, fish, SCUBA dive and have some older farm tractors, a backhoe and an old Cat D4 7U dozer. I'm a member of another train board, the antique Cat machinery owners club plus that forum and several old/antique tractor forums. I'm also into shooting and reloading.

    Default Irontodd joins nscake.net forums

I joined this forum many moons ago, when I thought I might get into n-scale modeling. Then didn't come back until now. I am currently building a 13x8 nscale layout in my basement, representing Eastern Plains of Colorado, possibly the towns of Holyoke, Idalia and Towner. I call it EPHIT for short. I will start abuild thread where appropriate once I get the lay of the land here. I go by irontodd on other forums too so you might recognize me from elsewhere. Happy to get irontodd to a forum dedicated to n scale.

    Todd

I have been building model trains since I was a kid. I started on O gauge as a kid using my dad's and granddad's old stuff. Then I went to high school and found girls...so that was the end of trains for about 20 years.

Then I got married and had kids of my own and when I started spending all my time at home again (young kids sort of require this) I started building N scale models after the kids went to sleep. I've been into it for about 3 years now and love it. It's so much more fun than O gauge ever was.

I am not fancy. No DCC or anything like that. I keep is straight DC for simplicity. I have a small 6'x2' layout. Everything on my layout is scratch built except the track and trains, and a few minor parts I've added to buildings or tunnel entrances and stuff. Scratch building is the fun of the whole thing for me. My bridges and buildings are all 100% scratch built. Some of my vehicles (cars and RV's and stuff) are totally scratch built. Some are heavily modified from a pre built model (used a store bought 50's ambulance to make the Ghostbusters Ecto 1 for example.

For me it's a creative outlet when my kids are in bed. When they are awake it's fun to run the trains with my kids. Both of them love working the controls.

Here's a couple examples of stuff I've done
