Model Railways have always involved a certain amount of electronics which can seem complicated for many modellers. DCC has added to that complexity with the need to program Configuration Variables etc. Automating layouts so trains run without direct control is even more complex with DC or DCC.
For many modellers switching to DCC with its excellent flexibility of control is too expensive given their existing investment in DC locomotives. Die-hard railway modellers can have in excess of 200 DC locos some of which may be up to 40 years old. Clearly converting so many locos would be prohibitively expensive and may not be possible with older mechanisms. All of these factors lead to the development of DCPro™.
